Time Warp

No I’m not talking Rocky Horror, although I could discuss the subject in great length, I’m talking about the time warp that comes before a holiday.  Those few days/weeks whatever while you anticipate a vacation and time begins to play tricks. It moves at a snail’s pace one moment and the next it feels like time is skipping ahead days at a time.
While I’ve felt this kind of time slip a few times before never has it been so pronounced as with our next vacation.  From the moment our oldest was born Disney became the ideal place to go, the most anticipated something we would HAVE to do.
Disney World is of course quite far from Winnipeg and while it may be the most magical place on earth it is also one of the most expensive.  So it got put off again and again until finally we realized that time was slipping by and the only way it would happen is if we made it happen.
The girls are now 13 and 8 respectively and it feels like they are just the right age to go now.  The more I think about it the better I feel that we waited until now to make it happen.  At 13 our oldest is not so far gone up the parent’s are un-cool path to harbor any negativity about family vacations and our youngest isn’t so young that she won’t remember the trip.
I went to Disneyland when I was 5 and besides a few snippets which may not be memories at all but often heard stories I remember almost nothing.  I would rather they both remember this trip because we may never get a chance to go again.  Mind you it felt like we would never get this first chance to go yet here I am in the ever shortening time until we leave.
I’m enjoying the anticipation to be honest, and in some ways I don’t want to get there because then it will mean we’re that much closer to it being over.  Where though has the time flown?  How can each minute seem so agonizingly long, my mind packed with thoughts and plans but the days themselves disappearing so quickly.
It is a time warp, a magical place where anticipation and enthusiasm create a strange state of mind.  It’s all in my head and as a favorite book once said “why should that make it any less real?”

Picture Day - Old vs New

It's not quite a one room school house but it was by no stretch of the imagination a large school with, if I recall correctly, 6 classrooms.  There was no gymnasium and by the time it was replaced several temporary classrooms had been added to house it's growing student population.
Just a few short years before the school was replaced the towns student population was so low that the school division had been considering closing it's doors. Parents in the area balked saying to give it time, that the town was growing and so too would the student population. The powers that be decided to give it a few more years; in the years that followed the student population did indeed grow. A decade after the division had considered the town to small for even it's small 6 class schoolhouse the student population was practically bursting at the seams and a new much larger school was needed.

I spent two years in the new La Salle school and yes more than 20 years later in my mind it is still the new school. It no longer is and like the division who couldn't imagine needing a school in the town at all I can hardly imagine that now a second school or a junior high is needed as well.

Frantic Friday

Holy crap what happened to the day? Actually I’d like to know what happened to my week.
Wait I know soccer and soccer and more soccer.  This has been an absolute mad week.  I anticipated that with both girls playing this year that soccer season was going to be crazy and after one week in full swing I’m now sure.
I’m beginning to doubt my ability to make it through the next two months without cracking. Every single night several hours in between the driving and the games is now dedicated to soccer.  Add in Parent-teacher conferences a handful of errands to run each day and I haven’t had time to think.
Beyond the 5 minutes I sat to do my blog yesterday I quite literally did not sit down from 7 am to 10 pm. I’m now officially tired and cranky.
This weekend is shaping up to be just as crazy and will certainly disappear before I’m fully aware it’s actually here.
We are having a shed kit delivered tomorrow morning and the day will be spent on construction and most likely all of Sunday as well.  If it isn’t done by Sunday night I won’t get another chance to finish the project until the next weekend so I’m really hoping it goes well.
I hate to leave my blog with such a hum drum and boring post, really not much more than an excuse rather than a real post but my mind is a mess and I’ve got a lot of work to do.
