Writing Challenge #4

What do you see in a favorite abstract painting?
I see through the eyes of a young child after a long summers day spent with family at a cabin on a wide blue lake. This young child has just been put to bed the door of the bedroom left open a ways.

As the child drops off to sleep she looks towards the door and can see stairs on the left which lead to more bedrooms. The right side of her view is obscured slightly by the partially closed door. In the center is the flickering lamp and fire light drifting from the main areas of the cabin along with the sound of adults and older children laughing and chatting over a final card game.

Each time she closes her eyes and opens them the doorway and stairs beyond slowly fade away.  This image is taken through that child’s eyes the final time her eyes open blurred and barely able to see before finally closing and drifting into sleep.

This challenge reminded me very much of pointing out a cloud in the sky and trying to explain to someone what you see.  Sometimes they see it sometimes they don’t.

A picture of a painting may not be the best thing to go off of but the best I could get. This picture hangs above my fireplace and the lighting and colors give it quite a different look and depth than seen here.
